AIM AND CONTENT

Human rights monitoring, reporting, protection and promotion have become a common feature of multidimensional peace operations. Human rights work has become a specialised profession which requires adequate preparation, specific technical skills, and significant substantive knowledge for professionals wishing to serve in these operations.

The different scenarios in which human rights missions are deployed, the evolution of legal standards, the high number of actors and stakeholders involved, as well as the different tasks these missions are asked to perform, requires appropriate training.

The IPT Specialisation Course will enhance participants’ understanding of international and regional human rights law and standards and equip them with the necessary specific competences and skills they will need to fulfil their tasks as members of a human rights field operation. The curriculum includes the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of an officer’s tasks, such as the legal frameworks, monitoring, reporting, fact-finding, promotion of human rights, prevention of violations, etc.

METHODOLOGY

The course employs a mixture of theory and practice to equip participants with state-of-the-art methodologies derived from on-the-ground experience of the international faculty. The participants will be involved in lectures, inter-active discussions, group work as well as simulation exercises.
